Introducing Tink, super hoop lover and dear friend who never ceases to amaze me with her dedication, creatively and new styles.
Name/Stage Name: Kristen McQuillin aka Tink
Location: Tokyo
How did your Hoop journey begin?
After some prompting from
Tracey, who had been to a class and kept saying "You'll love it!", and seeing SaFire's award-winning hoop dance video on YouTube, I finally signed up for a HoopLovers class. Tracey was right, I loved it.
What color was your first hoop?
The day after my first class, I bought Deanne's last two hoops. One was rainbow and one was pink-blue-yellow.
Describe Hoop Dance in 25 words or less...
Typical interior dialogue: Oh, my arms! flap, wave, better - next, ummm... duck out - ouch - flow? - ooooh, love that stretch - change - spin, spin, spin...whoa, dizzy!
How has hooping rocked your world? I can dance! I had no idea.
What are your signature Hoop moves?
I am so caught up in learning everything from everyone who will teach me that I haven't developed my own style yet. Check back next year.
What are your Hoop Dance goals?
I've three goals for this year:
1. See to fruition an excellent, exciting, and energetic Spin Matsuri event in October;
2. Learn/teach/promote
HITS (Hooping Improvisational Tribal Style) so groups of us can improv dance together;
3. Encourage everyone to have a
Hooper Trading Card
What or who inspires you to continue your Hoop Journey?
My fabulous hooping friends who are so keen, competitive, and beautiful inspire me to try harder. Plus, every hooping video on YouTube excites me in one way or another.
Do you have any cool/funny/interesting/unsettling/scary hoop related stories?
I'm not a religious person, but when I share my hoops with strangers at the park, I am reminded of the bible passage that starts "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat" only updated to: "For I was complacent and you shared your hooping joy." You never know who you are going to hoop with next...probably someone fascinating. Connecting with strangers has lead to some unexpected tangible gifts, too: food treats, toy tops, photographs, even tickets to a concert.
